According to AL Law, “no person shall practice nor hold himself out to be able to practice physical therapy or act as a physical therapist assistant in this state unless he is licensed in accordance with Section 34-24- 210.”
1) Request your school send a Certification of Physical Therapy Education (CPTE) to the board’s office or an official transcript if available identifying degree conferred and date.
2) Have two (2) Character Reference forms completed by professional colleagues and sent directly to the board by the person providing the reference
NOTE: APPLICANTS WHO ARE LICENSED BY EXAMINATION MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE NATIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY EXAMINATION (NPTE) AND THE ALABAMA JURISPRUDENCE EXAMINATION
NOTE: Applicants practicing with temporary licensure:
“Physical therapists practicing under a temporary license must be under the direct, on-site supervision of a licensed physical therapist. Physical therapist assistants practicing under a temporary license may be under the direct, on- site supervision of a licensed physical therapist assistant, with the approval of the supervising physical therapist.” Administrative Code, Rule 700-X-2-.08 (1) Revised 1/97, 8/99, 3/00, 4/03. All temporary licenses are immediately voided if the applicant fails the NPTE examination
